3. DANJIRI FESTIVAL 2001 summer


DANJIRI is a kind of trailer. Each word in Kishiwada city has own DANJIRI. One DANJIRI costs 8million yen.(about $8000) It is pulled by all the young residence in word. The boss jumps and dances on the top of that roof. It is very dangerous to dance on the roof, but it is very fantastic. Children dream to be dancing on the top.

DANJIRI has 4 of wood tyres and 2 wood brake rods in front. Drums and whistle and flute is played inside. There is some place to sit inside.

DANJIRI has no suspention but they pull DANJIRI on fullpower if it comes to tight corner.It sometime rolls over. I heard many ambulance to help the injury.

Boys and girls also pull the rope from DANJIRI. Their school has DANJIRI HOLIDAY on Sep 15TH. Danjiri is one of their important culture.


In front step of DANJIRI, chairman of the word stands proudly. They scream sometime. And it go through some shopping mall. This is the most difficult course to go through. Right picture shows a broken roof. The owner said that the roof has been broken every year. :-)

KISHIWADA city was originaly been a carpenter's town. On the back of their cloth, there is a word"daikumachi" meens "carpenter's town" You can see the photo left side.
